    Sasol is recruiting eight qualified Artisan Grade 2 Diesel Mechanics to join its operations team based in Sasolburg, Free State.

    The successful candidates will support electricity generation operations through maintenance work on 18 stationary marine-type internal combustion engines powered by natural gas and directly connected to electricity generators.

    The role reports directly to the Mechanical Maintenance Foreman and offers permanent employment at the SGEPP site, with no regular travel or shift work required.

    Standby duties and occasional overtime may be required during plant disruptions or major engine overhaul activities.

    Key Responsibilities

    The selected candidates will be responsible for:

    Engine Maintenance and Overhauls

    • Conducting overhaul work on Wärtsilä 20V34SG gas engines according to quality control plans
    • Performing overhaul maintenance on Napier 347 marine turbo systems
    • Servicing and repairing critical engine components based on maintenance schedules

    Mechanical Repairs

    • Diagnosing faults on engine systems and carrying out repairs
    • Replacing damaged or worn-out engine parts
    • Repairing piston assemblies, connecting rods, cylinder heads, lube oil pumps, and turbo systems

    Systems Maintenance

    • Troubleshooting gas systems and related components
    • Repairing compressed air systems and associated equipment
    • Maintaining engine flexible couplings

    Operational Duties

    • Operating overhead cranes for lifting heavy mechanical equipment
    • Performing maintenance according to outage plans and emergency breakdown requirements
    • Participating in standby schedules and overtime when necessary

    Minimum Requirements

    Applicants must meet the following requirements:

    Educational Qualifications

    • NQF Level 4 Occupational Trade Qualification in:
      • Diesel Mechanic
      • Earth Moving Mechanic
      • Diesel Fitter
    • Red Seal Certification (Mandatory)

    Work Experience

    • Minimum 3 years maintenance experience working with:
      • Heavy construction vehicles
      • Maritime engines
      • Gas engines

    Additional Requirements

    Candidates should have:

    • Physical fitness with ability to lift equipment up to 20kg
    • Valid Code B Driver’s License
    • Willingness to perform standby duties and overtime when required
    • Knowledge of workplace emergency procedures
    • Basic computer literacy including Microsoft Office knowledge
