Nigeria’s agriculture sector contributes over 20% to the nation’s GDP and remains a critical driver of livelihoods, employment, and economic growth. Despite the vast opportunities within the sector, many agri-based small and medium enterprises (Agri-SMEs) continue to face significant challenges, particularly in accessing the right support systems required to scale sustainably and compete effectively.
In response to this need, the Enterprise Development Centre (EDC) of Pan-Atlantic University has launched a fully funded Business Development Service Providers (BDSP) Certification Programme. This initiative is being implemented in partnership with AGRA and supported by key ecosystem enablers, including Kaduna Business School, SMEDAN, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, KfW, and The Rockefeller Foundation.
The programme is specifically designed to develop a new generation of skilled Business Development Service Providers who can effectively support Agri-SMEs in overcoming growth barriers. Through structured training and capacity building, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to help businesses strengthen their operations, unlock access to finance, improve corporate governance, and scale sustainably for long-term impact.
EDC’s approach goes beyond providing funding by focusing on building strong advisory systems, enhancing market readiness, and fostering institutional support that enables businesses to thrive. This initiative reflects a commitment to creating sustainable solutions that address the root challenges faced by entrepreneurs within the agricultural value chain.
