    Job Summary

    Women Donors Network (WDN) and its affiliate Women Donors Action (WDA) are seeking a strategic, relational, and mission-driven Chief Program Officer to lead learning, grantmaking, and advocacy functions, and to build donor power within a multiracial, multigenerational membership community.

    This full-time, remote role reports to the President & CEO, serves on the Executive Team, and manages a team of leaders to enhance the organization’s impact in social justice movements.

    About the Role

    The Chief Program Officer (CPO) will lead and integrate WDN/WDA’s member engagement, learning, grantmaking, and advocacy strategies to build collective power for justice.

    Responsibilities include translating organizational priorities into impactful member engagement, deepening philanthropic and political education, mobilizing resources, and activating members as effective advocates.

    The CPO will refine and scale the membership model, ensuring pathways to engagement and consistent conversion from learning to action.

    This leadership position requires high emotional intelligence, a deep understanding of donor psychology, transformational giving, and experience cultivating trust-based partnerships.

    The role involves regular travel across the U.S., remote work, and flexible scheduling, with a preference for candidates with 15+ years of nonprofit or philanthropy experience based in the U.S.

    Key Responsibilities

    Organizational Leadership

    • Lead, coach, and develop teams in Learning & Impact, Politics & Advocacy, and Strategic Grantmaking.
    • Collaborate with the CEO and Board as a strategic advisor.
    • Drive organization-wide alignment for long-term growth and influence.
    • Foster a high-performing, accountable, and collaborative team culture.

    Program Strategy & Impact

    • Integrate member engagement, learning, grantmaking, and advocacy strategies.
    • Refine and scale the membership model to deepen activation and influence.
    • Develop data-driven insights to evaluate and improve program outcomes.
    • Translate strategic priorities into high-impact initiatives.

    Member Learning & Activation

    • Design an integrated member journey to foster engagement and power-building.
    • Advance philanthropic and political learning strategies.
    • Support regional and network-wide member actions and campaigns.
    • Strengthen leadership capacity within the membership network.

    Strategic Grantmaking

    • Support multi-entity grantmaking strategies aligned with organizational impact.
    • Integrate funding pathways and develop pathways for member engagement.
    • Build relationships with funders and philanthropic partners.
    • Support evolution of initiatives and funding vehicles for resource mobilization.

    Candidate Requirements

    • 15+ years of experience in large nonprofit or philanthropic organizations, with at least 2+ years as a senior executive leader.
    • Deep commitment to WDN/WDA’s mission and values.
    • Experience in multi-entity, membership-based, or networked organizations.

    • Proven success in scaling strategies, mobilizing resources, and leading organizational change.
    • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and cross-functional leadership skills.
    • High emotional intelligence, operational rigor, and systems thinking ability.
