Clean Air Fund is seeking a highly organised and experienced Senior Communications Officer to support Breathe Cities, one of the world’s most ambitious urban air quality initiatives.

Working within a global partnership involving Bloomberg Philanthropies, Clean Air Fund, and C40 Cities, the successful candidate will help communicate the impact of clean air initiatives worldwide.

Contract: Fixed-Term (Until End of June 2029)
Salary: Nairobi – KES 4,500,000 per year | Accra – GHS 340,000 per year | Johannesburg – ZAR 900,000 per year | Addis Ababa – Equivalent Local Salary (TBC) | London – GBP 47,000 per year

Key Responsibilities

Communications & Content

Develop compelling stories highlighting the impact of Breathe Cities.
Produce clear, engaging and accessible communications materials.
Translate complex technical information into audience-friendly content.
Maintain consistent messaging across all communications channels.

Digital Communications

Manage digital communications activities.
Support website and social media content planning.
Ensure digital channels effectively communicate programme achievements.
Coordinate external communications agencies where required.

Project Coordination

Coordinate communications across multiple international partners.
Keep communications workstreams on schedule.
Manage relationships with city teams, agencies and partner organisations.
Support delivery of communications plans across different regions.

Stakeholder Engagement

Build productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Coordinate messaging across partner organisations.
Ensure high editorial standards throughout communications outputs.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess:

Communications experience within an NGO, philanthropic organisation, consultancy, public sector or other public-interest organisation.
Strong project management and organisational skills.

Experience managing digital communications, websites, social media platforms and/or communications agencies.
Excellent writing, editing and content development skills.
Proven ability to simplify complex topics into engaging communications.

Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced international environment.
A proactive, organised and solution-oriented approach.

Desirable Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with experience in:

Working with cities, municipalities or local government programmes.
Managing communications across multiple countries or regions.
Air quality, climate change, transport, urban policy, public health or related sectors.

Salary and Benefits

Annual salary varies by duty station:

Nairobi: KES 4,500,000
Accra: GHS 340,000
Johannesburg: ZAR 900,000
Addis Ababa: Equivalent local salary (to be confirmed)
London: GBP 47,000
