The Climate Impacts Awards 2026 are seeking transdisciplinary research teams to investigate the health impacts of climate change and translate findings into policy recommendations. This initiative aims to fund rigorous research that addresses evidence gaps and influences climate policy, with a particular focus on the economic dimension of climate-related health issues.
This call is open to mid-career and established researchers worldwide, excluding mainland China. Applicants must form a transdisciplinary team including climate scientists, health experts, economists, policy strategists, and community partners. The team needs a lead applicant with a permanent contract and a track record in policy-relevant research, along with at least one co-applicant (maximum seven).
Successful projects can receive up to £2.5 million per study for a duration of up to three years. Funding covers research costs such as staff salaries, materials, equipment, fieldwork, travel, and engagement activities. Overheads, open-access charges, and professional development are also supported.
Applications open on January 20, 2026, and must be submitted through the Wellcome Funding Platform by 15:00 BST on April 8, 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interviews between July 21–23, 2026, with funding decisions expected in August 2026.
