    Communications Officer Position Overview

    The Communications Officer will play a key role in helping Sightsavers communicate the impact of its work to diverse audiences. The successful candidate will support the planning, development, and delivery of strategic communications initiatives designed to raise the organization’s profile and strengthen engagement with stakeholders, partners, and donors.

    This is a 12-month fixed-term contract offering a competitive salary ranging from £29,005 to £34,123 per year, depending on experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    The Communications Officer will work closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver high-quality communication outputs. Core responsibilities include:

    • Supporting the development and implementation of communications strategies and activities.
    • Creating compelling content for digital and offline communication channels.
    • Translating organizational objectives into practical communication plans.
    • Identifying and engaging key target audiences.
    • Ensuring communications activities align with donor requirements and organizational priorities.
    • Collaborating with colleagues across departments to showcase program achievements and impact.
    • Managing relationships with external partners and suppliers.
    • Monitoring and evaluating communication activities to improve future performance.
    • Contributing to the overall visibility and reputation of Sightsavers.

    Skills and Experience Required

    Sightsavers is seeking a proactive and adaptable communications professional with excellent writing and stakeholder engagement skills.

    Essential qualifications and experience include:

    • Experience working in a communications role or communications-focused environment.
    • Strong content creation and writing skills for different audiences and platforms.
    • Experience using a variety of communication channels, including digital platforms.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
    • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
    • Experience translating ideas and objectives into practical communications activities.
    • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other digital communication tools.

    Preferred Qualifications

    While not mandatory, the following experience will be considered advantageous:

    • Experience working within international development, global health, or related sectors.
    • Knowledge of policy communications or program communications.
    • Experience supporting donor-funded projects and contractual communication requirements.
    • Experience working with communication agencies, consultants, or external suppliers.

    Candidates with a background in nonprofit communications, international development communications, public relations, or advocacy communications may find the role particularly aligned with their expertise.
