Overview

The Digital Energy Challenge 2026, led by Agence Française de Développement, is a funding and support programme designed to scale innovative digital energy solutions across Africa, targeting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Eligibility

• Employ fewer than 250 people
• Have an annual turnover below €50 million
• Operate independently
• Demonstrate a strong research and development component
• Have no conflict of interest with AEDC

Benefits

Total budget of €827,000 allocated for the 2026 call. Successful applicants will benefit from:

• Grant Funding:
  • Up to €400,000 for Partnership projects
  • Up to €150,000 for Tech Accelerator projects
• Eligible Expenses Coverage:
  • Equipment and software
  • Product and service development
  • Training and capacity building
• Technical and Strategic Support:
  • Access to expert guidance in project management
  • Participation in a dedicated bootcamp
  • Sector insights and collaboration opportunities
• Visibility and Networking:
  • Inclusion in communication campaigns
  • Access to the Digital Energy Community
  • Opportunities to engage with African energy utilities
