    Job Summary

    The Centre of Competence on Humanitarian Negotiation (CCHN) is recruiting a paid intern to support its work in Africa and contribute to research on humanitarian negotiations.

    This internship offers the opportunity to assist frontline humanitarian professionals, gain insight into humanitarian operations across multiple regions, and develop practical negotiation skills.

    The position is based in Geneva, Switzerland, with a focus on operations in Africa and transversal thematic areas. Application deadline is 5 May 2026.

    The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is the world’s largest humanitarian network, comprising 191 member National Societies.

    IFRC’s mission is to deliver timely, coordinated, and locally led humanitarian action across the globe, supporting resilience in climate, health, migration, and displacement sectors.

    The CCHN, hosted by IFRC in Geneva, is a joint initiative of ICRC, MSF Switzerland, UNHCR, and WFP, focused on improving humanitarian negotiation practices through knowledge sharing, dialogue, and community engagement.

    Job Purpose

    The Intern will support the CCHN Operations team, which includes regional managers, project staff, and community of practice members.

    Responsibilities include providing administrative and operational support for online and onsite events, managing community engagement activities, and assisting with research and knowledge management tasks.

    The intern reports to the Operations Manager overseeing transversal files and regional portfolios in Eastern Africa and the Great Lakes region.

    Key Responsibilities

    Tech-hosting & Event Management

    • Organize technical support for online activities (Zoom, Teams, Miro, etc.) ensuring smooth delivery
    • Advise on improving accessibility of digital events
    • Record attendance and coordinate publication of events on CCHN platforms
    • Support logistical arrangements and translation services when needed

    Community Engagement & Management

    • Manage contact databases on Salesforce
    • Support engagement with the humanitarian negotiation community via online platforms and communication channels
    • Assist in screening applications and participant support
    • Contribute to enhancing community participation and interaction

    Operational Research & Knowledge Management

    • Assist in preparing analytical reports, background papers, and research summaries
    • Support knowledge sharing activities within the community of practice

    Additional Support

    • Provide ad hoc assistance to the operations team as required
    • Contribute to the achievement of IFRC’s strategic goals and uphold humanitarian principles

    Education & Experience

    Required

    • Current university student or recent graduate (within 1 year) in political sciences, international relations, or related fields
    • Experience in project management and information flow management
    • Familiarity with planning, organization, and data management software

    Preferred

    • 1-2 years of professional experience in the humanitarian sector, especially in Protection or Health
    • Experience managing online communities

    • Proficiency with office software (MS Office, SharePoint, Salesforce, Miro)
    • Ability to adapt to evolving technology and digital constraints in humanitarian contexts

    • Fluent in English and French (written and spoken)
    • Good command of Arabic (preferred)
