    Exciting Career Opportunities in Agriculture and Land Surveying in Eastern Cape

    The Department of Agriculture in the Eastern Cape Province is seeking qualified and experienced professionals for multiple positions including Senior Agricultural Advisors, Agricultural Advisors, and Land Survey Technicians.

    These roles are vital for the implementation of agricultural development programs, technical advisory services, and land surveying activities.

    Successful applicants will contribute to sustainable agricultural practices, stakeholder engagement, research, and technical survey operations within the department.

    Job 1: Senior Agricultural Advisor (X24 Posts)

    Location: Eastern Cape (Amathole, Alfred Nzo, Sarah Baartman, OR Tambo, Joe Gqabi)
    Closing Date: 31 July 2026
    Contract: 3-year fixed-term contract
    Salary: R487,197 per annum (Level 09) + 37% in lieu of benefits

    Responsibilities

    • Coordinate implementation of strategic agricultural and rural development programs
    • Provide scientific and technical agricultural extension services
    • Support research and training activities
    • Ensure service delivery through ICT tools and systems

    • Promote stakeholder engagement and technological innovations
    • Prepare comprehensive reports on work progress and outcomes
    • Maintain high work standards through teamwork and professional development

    Requirements

    • NQF Level 8 qualification in Agriculture recognized by SAQA
    • Valid registration with SACNASP
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Extension and Advisory Services

    • Knowledge of Agriculture Extension Methodology and Project Planning
    • Strong planning, organizing, change management, and communication skills
    • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and a valid driver’s license

    Job 2: Agricultural Advisor (X77 Posts)

    Location: Various districts across Eastern Cape including Amathole, Alfred Nzo, Sarah Baartman, OR Tambo, Chris Hani, Joe Gqabi
    Closing Date: 31 July 2026
    Contract: 3-year fixed-term contract
    Salary: R413,001 per annum (Level 08) + 37% in lieu of benefits

    Responsibilities

    • Provide practical agricultural advice to farmers
    • Coordinate agricultural activities and transfer farming skills
    • Network with industry stakeholders such as suppliers, NGOs, research institutions

    • Support farmers through advisory services and technical support
    • Compile reports and keep abreast of new policies and technologies

    Requirements

    • NQF Level 8 qualification in Agriculture recognized by SAQA
    • Valid SACNASP registration
    • Self-management, people management, and conflict resolution skills
    • Strong planning, communication, and computer literacy skills
    • Valid driver’s license

    Job 3: Land Survey Technician (Production) Grade A (X5 Posts)

    Location: Various districts including OR Tambo, Chris Hani, Alfred Nzo, Sarah Baartman, Amathole
    Closing Date: 31 July 2026
    Salary: R407,337 per annum (OSD)

    Responsibilities

    • Provide technical survey support including examination, maintenance, and archiving of survey documents
    • Perform surveys and computations, ensure safety compliance
    • Evaluate plans and incorporate new survey technologies
    • Develop and maintain survey databases
    • Supervise survey personnel and assets
    • Conduct research to improve survey techniques and technologies

    Requirements

    • National Diploma (NQF 6) in Survey or Cartography or relevant qualification
    • Registration with the South African Council for Professional and Technical Surveyors (PLATO) / SAGC
    • Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience in survey
    • Strong project management, report writing, and GIS skills
    • Valid driver’s license
