Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a team of ML engineers, ensuring predictable delivery while maintaining system health.
• Collaborate with senior technical contributors to shape technical architecture.
• Champion AI-native workflows across the software development lifecycle.
• Oversee production ML infrastructure and MLOps for Xero's AI-native product suite.
• Support projects like Just Ask Xero, Auto Bank Rec, and smart document capture.
• Balance short-term delivery with long-term system health.

Requirements

• Strong track record of mentoring and developing engineering teams.
• Technical judgement across architecture and system design.
• Experience translating business goals into actionable engineering plans.
• Ability to deliver roadmaps predictably in dynamic environments.
• Hands-on experience in writing, reviewing, or debugging production code.
• Familiarity with machine learning or AI systems is preferred, but genuine curiosity is essential.
