Engineering Manager, Notifications @Discord

Overview

Discord is seeking a technical and hands-on Engineering Manager to lead the Notifications team within the Growth organization. This role focuses on the platform and infrastructure that powers all notifications Discord sends, optimizing user engagement and experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a team of full-stack engineers building and operating the notifications platform, including Elixir services, Python backends, pubsub pipelines, and Kubernetes infrastructure.
• Set technical direction for the notifications infrastructure, ensuring scalability and reliability.
• Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and Marketing to define and execute the notifications roadmap.
• Drive continuous improvement in notification engagement and user trust through experimentation and metrics.
• Build a high-performing team through hiring, coaching, and promoting engineering best practices.
• Work with platform consumers to evolve the primitives that depend on user reach.
• Partner with engineering leadership on strategic planning and organizational improvements.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, particularly with backend or infrastructure systems.
• 2+ years of experience as an Engineering Manager.
• Experience with technologies such as Elixir, Python, pubsub/streaming pipelines, and Kubernetes.
• Strong track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams to define and deliver solutions.
• Proven ability to grow engineers and support team success.
• Ownership mindset and ability to engage in technical discussions.
• Capability to drive a culture of fast iteration and high-quality delivery.

Benefits

The US base salary range for this position is $248,000 to $341,000, plus equity and benefits. Compensation is determined by role, level, skills, experience, and education.
