Field Engineer, Public Sector @Cursor

Overview

The role involves hiring Field Engineers to partner with prospective and strategic customers across the Public Sector. This position focuses on the federal civilian and defense agencies, modernizing software development practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with Account Executives (AEs) to own technical discovery, demos, proofs of concept (POCs), and technical validation for new deals and expansion.
• Build trusted relationships across engineering, security, product, and IT stakeholders.
• Work in mission-critical and high-security environments, focusing on developer workflows, AI tooling, and complex setups.
• Connect Cursor to outcomes that matter: developer productivity, secure software delivery, and mission velocity.
• Deliver technical presentations, whiteboards, and workshops for both technical and executive audiences.
• Act as the customer’s technical advocate internally with Product and Engineering teams.
• Partner with post-sales to ensure a smooth handoff and successful onboarding.

Requirements

• Strong communication skills and executive presence, comfortable developing alongside engineers or presenting to senior leaders like CTOs and CISOs.
• Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and ability to connect technical details to mission and operational impact.
• Hands-on technical fluency with workflows and AI tooling in complex environments.
• Experience in Field Engineering, Solutions Architecture, Pre-Sales, or Consulting, preferably within federal, defense, or regulated tech sectors.
• Excitement for working in the Public Sector and quickly learning about agency buying motions and security expectations.
• Ability to hold or obtain a federal security clearance (active clearance is a plus).
