Young graduates interested in international relations, diplomacy, and EU–Africa cooperation can apply for the Funded Traineeship at the EU Delegation to the African Union 2026. The traineeship offers hands-on experience supporting the Political, Press and Information (PPI) Section of the EU Delegation in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Eligibility: Young graduates currently residing in Ethiopia
Selected trainees will gain practical experience working within a European Union diplomatic mission, supporting policy research, communications, and cooperation initiatives between the European Union and the African Union.
Participants selected for the programme will receive:
A monthly grant to support living expenses
Experience working in a EU diplomatic mission
Exposure to EU–African Union policy and international cooperation
Opportunities to contribute to high-level policy discussions and international events
⚠️ Note: Travel, visa, accommodation, insurance, and other personal expenses must be covered by the trainee.
Selected trainees will support the Political, Press and Information Section in several areas:
Conduct research on political and cooperation issues
Prepare summaries of meetings and policy papers
Support work related to mobility, migration, youth, economic integration, and multilateral relations
Draft press releases, speeches, project fiches, and factsheets
Produce social media content, communication materials, and short videos
Assist in visibility and strategic communication initiatives
Support organisation of internal and external events
Prepare reports and documentation
Attend meetings and prepare minutes
Contribute to the follow-up of the 2025 EU–AU Ministerial Conference
Support coordination of the Team Europe Communication Community
Assist the Policy and Cooperation Section when required.
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Currently residing in Ethiopia
Hold a Master’s degree in:
Political Science
International Relations
Economics
Law
Social Sciences or related field
Have less than one year of professional experience after graduation
Be fluent in English
Demonstrate strong analytical, drafting, and communication skills
Experience using design and communication tools such as Canva
Strong interest in African Union politics, governance, and economic integration
Applicants should also demonstrate initiative, reliability, and willingness to contribute ideas.

Each selected trainee will receive a monthly grant to cover living expenses. All costs related to travels, visa, insurance, accommodation must be borne by the trainee.

Unsuccessful candidates will be notified by email. In case the selected candidates are not able to present the required documents, their application will be rejected.
