Overview
The Feeding Assistant will support the nutritional management of children suffering from acute malnutrition under the supervision of a Nutrition Nurse, focusing on delivering quality nutritional care in line with INTERSOS protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide basic healthcare support such as wound care, local treatments while maintaining hygiene standards.
- Educate caregivers on the nutrition center’s functioning including feeding schedules and medical check-ups.
- Distribute therapeutic meals as per medical prescriptions and monitor daily food intake.
- Encourage and support breastfeeding practices among mothers.
- Monitor and record patients’ weight and vital signs.
- Report danger signs such as fever or loss of appetite to supervising nurse.
- Ensure availability of safe drinking water and maintain hygiene of the facility.
- Prepare ReSoMal as required and support psychosocial activities.
Requirements
- Education: Diploma or Certificate in Community Health Extension Work (CHEW).
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in nutrition-related roles.
- Knowledge of nutrition case management, healthcare practices, and ability to report patient conditions.
- Languages: Fluency in English; local languages like Hausa and Kanuri are an advantage.
- Strong teamwork skills and ability to work under pressure.
