Overview

The Feeding Assistant will support the nutritional management of children suffering from acute malnutrition under the supervision of a Nutrition Nurse, focusing on delivering quality nutritional care in line with INTERSOS protocols.

Key Responsibilities

Provide basic healthcare support such as wound care, local treatments while maintaining hygiene standards.
Educate caregivers on the nutrition center’s functioning including feeding schedules and medical check-ups.
Distribute therapeutic meals as per medical prescriptions and monitor daily food intake.
Encourage and support breastfeeding practices among mothers.
Monitor and record patients’ weight and vital signs.
Report danger signs such as fever or loss of appetite to supervising nurse.
Ensure availability of safe drinking water and maintain hygiene of the facility.
Prepare ReSoMal as required and support psychosocial activities.

Requirements

Education: Diploma or Certificate in Community Health Extension Work (CHEW).
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in nutrition-related roles.
Knowledge of nutrition case management, healthcare practices, and ability to report patient conditions.
Languages: Fluency in English; local languages like Hausa and Kanuri are an advantage.
Strong teamwork skills and ability to work under pressure.
