Overview

The Laboratory Scientist will be responsible for establishing, managing, and supervising laboratory services across Stabilization Centers in Maiduguri, Monguno, Magumeri, and Dikwa.

Key Responsibilities

Establish and oversee laboratory services across designated Stabilization Centers
Supervise diagnostic services including:
- Blood screening for infectious diseases
- Blood grouping and cross-matching
Ensure that all blood and blood products meet established safety and quality standards
Maintain strict quality control systems within laboratory operations
Train and mentor laboratory assistants and other relevant project staff
Supervise all laboratory testing activities to ensure compliance with accepted standards
Maintain accurate records of laboratory tests, results, and sample transfers
Manage inventory and stock of laboratory consumables and supplies
Ensure proper handling, storage, and processing of laboratory samples according to biohazard protocols
Provide guidance to staff on laboratory safety procedures and infection prevention
Coordinate follow-up on transferred samples and ensure proper documentation

Requirements

Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS)
Must be registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN)
Valid and current practicing license is mandatory
Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience in a laboratory setting
Previous experience with NGOs is an added advantage
Experience in stabilization centers is a plus
Proven experience in sample collection and laboratory diagnostics
Hands-on experience in hematology, chemical pathology, and microbiology
Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, diagnostics, and quality control systems
Experience in supply chain and inventory management for laboratory consumables
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
Flexibility and ability to work under pressure
High attention to detail and commitment to duty
Strong alignment with INTERSOS principles
Fluency in English is required
Knowledge of local languages such as Hausa and Kanuri is an added advantage
