Overview
The Laboratory Scientist will be responsible for establishing, managing, and supervising laboratory services across Stabilization Centers in Maiduguri, Monguno, Magumeri, and Dikwa.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and oversee laboratory services across designated Stabilization Centers
- Supervise diagnostic services including:
- Blood screening for infectious diseases
- Blood grouping and cross-matching
- Ensure that all blood and blood products meet established safety and quality standards
- Maintain strict quality control systems within laboratory operations
- Train and mentor laboratory assistants and other relevant project staff
- Supervise all laboratory testing activities to ensure compliance with accepted standards
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory tests, results, and sample transfers
- Manage inventory and stock of laboratory consumables and supplies
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and processing of laboratory samples according to biohazard protocols
- Provide guidance to staff on laboratory safety procedures and infection prevention
- Coordinate follow-up on transferred samples and ensure proper documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS)
- Must be registered with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN)
- Valid and current practicing license is mandatory
- Minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience in a laboratory setting
- Previous experience with NGOs is an added advantage
- Experience in stabilization centers is a plus
- Proven experience in sample collection and laboratory diagnostics
- Hands-on experience in hematology, chemical pathology, and microbiology
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, diagnostics, and quality control systems
- Experience in supply chain and inventory management for laboratory consumables
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility and ability to work under pressure
- High attention to detail and commitment to duty
- Strong alignment with INTERSOS principles
- Fluency in English is required
- Knowledge of local languages such as Hausa and Kanuri is an added advantage
