Overview
Front Line Defenders is seeking a Global Security Lead to spearhead its security management framework, ensuring the safety and security of personnel, operations, and events globally. This pivotal new position requires a strategic thinker with extensive experience in security management for individuals and organizations operating in high-risk environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and review a comprehensive, rights-based security risk management system.
- Develop, update, and enforce security policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Provide leadership, strategic guidance, and expert analysis on emerging security threats.
- Oversee physical protection systems, digital security protocols, and crisis preparedness.
- Offer expert advice on security preparations for staff travel and high-risk activities.
- Support staff in developing personalized security strategies and provide guidance during security incidents.
- Deliver security training and promote a positive, inclusive, and proactive security culture.
Requirements
- Fluency in English and at least one other FLD working language (French, Spanish, Arabic, or Russian).
- Deep understanding of duty of care requirements, security practices, and health and safety legislation.
- Extensive practical knowledge of security management principles for high-risk environments.
- Strong awareness of intersectional impacts on security.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and leadership skills.
- At least 7 years of experience in security management across multiple high-risk countries, ideally within NGOs, INGOs, media, or inter-governmental agencies.
- Proven experience leading risk assessments, threat analysis, and developing security policies.
- Experience applying a gendered and intersectional approach to security.
- Proficiency in digital security and report writing.
- Formal security management qualifications and knowledge of digital protection issues are desirable.

Additional Information
