About the External Engagement Coordinator Role

The External Engagement Coordinator plays a central role in ensuring effective collaboration across Girls Not Brides’ External Engagement Directorate.

Reporting directly to the Director of External Engagement, the successful candidate will provide project coordination, event management, planning support, and operational oversight that enables the organisation’s Policy & Advocacy, Communications, and Development teams to work cohesively toward shared objectives.

The position offers broad exposure to international advocacy campaigns, donor engagement, strategic communications, and fundraising initiatives while contributing to one of the world’s leading movements promoting girls’ rights.

Key Responsibilities

The role combines project coordination, event management, operational planning, and cross-team collaboration.

Coordinate Cross-Directorate Projects

The successful candidate will:

• Support coordination of projects involving the Policy & Advocacy, Communications, and Development teams.
• Track project milestones, timelines, deliverables, and dependencies.
• Maintain shared work plans and project trackers using Monday.com and other digital platforms.
• Identify project risks, delays, or resourcing challenges and communicate them appropriately.
• Coordinate inputs for campaigns, reports, donor materials, and joint initiatives.
• Ensure clear documentation, ownership, and accountability across project teams.

Support International Events

A major component of the role involves planning and coordinating high-profile events.

Responsibilities include:

• Coordinating virtual and in-person events, including webinars, convenings, donor meetings, and high-level engagements.
• Managing event schedules, logistics, and registration processes.
• Preparing event timelines and run-of-show documents.
• Supporting speaker invitations and stakeholder communications.
• Liaising with venues, suppliers, and external partners.
• Coordinating event delivery and on-the-day logistics where required.
• Maintaining post-event reports, attendance records, feedback, and lessons learned.

Strengthen Directorate Coordination

The coordinator will also support the daily functioning of the External Engagement Directorate by:

• Organising regular team meetings and strategic planning sessions.
• Preparing agendas and recording action points.
• Tracking follow-up actions across departments.
• Supporting communication and information sharing throughout the organisation.
• Assisting with knowledge management and monitoring activities.
• Supporting onboarding and induction processes for new colleagues.

Organisational Responsibilities

The successful candidate will also:

• Promote Girls Not Brides’ mission and values in all aspects of their work.
• Comply with organisational safeguarding, diversity, inclusion, data protection, and code of conduct policies.
• Maintain accurate internal databases and monitoring systems.

Eligibility Requirements

Girls Not Brides is seeking candidates who demonstrate strong organisational, communication, and coordination skills.

Applicants should have:

• Experience in event coordination, project coordination, or administrative support.
• Previous experience working within an international NGO, advocacy, communications, or development environment is desirable.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Experience planning and delivering virtual or in-person events.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.

Salary and Benefits

Girls Not Brides offers competitive remuneration alongside an attractive employee benefits package.

United Kingdom Salary

Successful applicants based in London will receive:

• Starting salary of £34,915 per year.
• Annual salary increments.
• Employer pension contribution of 10%.

Kenya Salary

Applicants based in Nairobi will receive a competitive market-based salary determined using Birches Group salary benchmarking for comparable NGO positions.
