The role is a full-time remote position open to candidates based in Africa who have the legal right to work in their country of application.

Role Overview: Regional Lead – Africa

The Regional Lead – Africa will act as GMH’s strategic advisor and regional ambassador, helping to strengthen the methane mitigation ecosystem across Africa.

The position will focus on developing partnerships, providing regional intelligence, supporting funding strategies, and representing GMH in high-level discussions.

The successful candidate will work closely with programme directors, development teams, communications specialists, and global engagement teams to ensure African perspectives inform organisational strategies.

Key objectives include:

Key Responsibilities

The Regional Lead will oversee several areas of strategic engagement and programme development.

Regional Representation and Stakeholder Engagement

Responsibilities include:

• Representing GMH in methane mitigation initiatives across Africa.
• Building relationships with government institutions, NGOs, research organisations, funders, and private sector partners.
• Participating in conferences, policy discussions, climate forums, and stakeholder meetings.
• Supporting media engagement and public communication efforts.
• Strengthening partnerships with regional climate initiatives.
• Representing GMH at major global events, including climate conferences and donor meetings.

Strategic Advisory and Regional Analysis

The role will provide insights into Africa’s political, economic, and environmental landscape.

Key duties include:

• Advising leadership on regional opportunities and challenges.
• Monitoring methane-related policies and regulatory developments.
• Identifying government priorities aligned with methane reduction goals.
• Analysing stakeholder dynamics and emerging climate opportunities.
• Supporting donors and partners working on methane mitigation.

Strategy Development and Implementation

The Regional Lead will contribute to the development and execution of Africa-focused methane strategies.

Responsibilities include:

• Designing initiatives that strengthen methane reduction efforts.
• Deploying strategic seed grants to support emerging organisations.
• Connecting successful initiatives with larger funding opportunities.
• Organising workshops, partnerships, and knowledge-sharing events.
• Building communities of practice focused on methane reduction.

Collaboration, Reporting and Financial Management

The position will also involve supporting internal coordination and responsible financial management.

Responsibilities include:

• Providing updates to leadership and donors.
• Assessing grant proposals where required.
• Supporting programme teams with regional knowledge.
• Monitoring project budgets and grant expenditure.
• Ensuring compliance with financial and operational requirements.
• Preparing financial reports and expense documentation.

Required Qualifications and Experience

GMH is seeking candidates with substantial experience in climate action, stakeholder engagement, strategy development, or public affairs.

Ideal candidates should have:

• At least eight years of progressive professional experience.
• Experience working in climate, environmental, energy, or related sectors in Africa.
• Demonstrated experience engaging governments, donors, NGOs, and international organisations.
• Experience representing organisations at public events and policy discussions.
• Strong strategic planning and implementation skills.
• Experience with grant-making or seed funding is desirable.

Employment Details and Compensation

The Regional Lead – Africa position offers:

• Travel requirement: Approximately 40% domestic and international travel
• Salary range: USD $113,000–$142,000 annually
