The Global Methane Hub (GMH) is the first coordinated philanthropic initiative dedicated to funding methane mitigation efforts across energy, agriculture, and waste sectors, which together account for 96% of human-caused methane emissions.

GMH supports catalytic investments, fosters long-term transformation, and delivers quick wins through regranting, convening, and advising activities.

Purpose of the Role

The Regional Lead – Africa serves as GMH’s primary ambassador and strategic advisor for the African region.

Responsible for building influential networks and fostering relationships with government officials, civil society, private sector, and academic institutions, the role aims to advance methane mitigation initiatives across Africa.

This position involves strategic analysis, ecosystem strengthening, and representing GMH at regional and international platforms to promote methane reduction efforts aligned with global climate goals.

Key Responsibilities

Regional Representation & Stakeholder Engagement

• Act as GMH’s principal representative for methane mitigation initiatives in Africa.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with governments, NGOs, research institutions, and private sector partners.
• Represent GMH at industry events, conferences, and high-level meetings; travel may be required.

• Amplify GMH’s profile through media engagement and public speaking.
• Position GMH as a trusted leader and partner in the region’s methane mitigation efforts.
• Collaborate with program teams to advance sectoral work and leverage regional networks.

Strategic Advisory & Analysis

• Provide regional insights to inform GMH’s global engagement strategy.
• Analyze regional political, policy, and stakeholder landscapes.
• Advise program teams on regional opportunities, risks, and policy developments.
• Monitor and document regional methane policies and government commitments.
• Lead engagement with donors and practitioners working on methane reduction in Africa.

Strategy Development & Execution

• Collaborate with GMH leadership on regional methane mitigation strategy.
• Design initiatives to strengthen Africa’s methane mitigation ecosystem.
• Deploy seed grants to catalyze new initiatives and connect successful grantees for scale-up.
• Organize workshops and foster communities of practice for methane reduction.

Collaboration & Communications

• Regularly update leadership and donors on regional progress.
• Brief teams on regional developments impacting organizational strategies.
• Identify regional organizations for potential collaboration.
• Support program teams with regional insights and cultural understanding.

Financial Management

• Ensure compliance with organizational and donor regulations.
• Assist in budget planning, monitoring, and reporting.
• Support financial oversight of regional grants and initiatives.

Candidate Profile

Experience & Background

• Minimum 8+ years in stakeholder engagement, strategy, or public affairs within climate, environment, energy, or related fields in Africa.
• Proven experience representing organizations in high-level forums, policy dialogues, and public conferences.

• Grant-making or seed-funding experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
• Strong understanding of Africa’s climate, energy, agriculture, or waste sectors.

Skills & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, public policy, international relations, or related fields; advanced degree preferred.
• Established networks with African governments, civil society, regional bodies, and the private sector.

• Excellent communication skills in English; proficiency in French, Portuguese, Arabic, or other African languages is advantageous.
• Strong project management, strategic thinking, and cultural sensitivity.
• Ability to work independently, adapt to ambiguity, and collaborate effectively.
