    Recourse is an independent, non-profit organization committed to holding international financial institutions (IFIs) accountable and transforming public finance to support sustainable, community-centered energy systems.

    Working globally through a virtual team, Recourse advocates for a shift away from fossil fuels and extractive industries towards just and equitable renewable energy solutions, emphasizing social and environmental justice.

    Position Overview

    Recourse is seeking an experienced Advisor based in Africa to support research, advocacy, and campaigns targeting IFIs, with a focus on just energy transitions.

    This role, while based in Africa—preferably in Kenya—is global in scope, involving collaboration with allies worldwide, policy advocacy, and stakeholder engagement.

    The Advisor will bring regional expertise in Africa, contributing to global advocacy efforts aligned with Recourse’s 2025-2030 strategy.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support the delivery of Change Goal strategies, including Just Transition, Fair International Financial Architecture, and Upholding Rights.
    • Collaborate with allies and partners to campaign for policy and practice change within IFIs.
    • Produce impactful advocacy, research, and communication materials.
    • Build and maintain relationships with civil society organizations and key alliances in both the global North and South.

    • Organize events, meetings, panels, and workshops; support engagement of Southern partners at key events.
    • Contribute to organizational communications, including acting as a spokesperson, writing blogs, and supporting digital campaigns.
    • Ensure campaign activities align with organizational goals and contribute to regular reporting to funders.
    • Collaborate on funding opportunities to expand program impact.

    Qualifications

    Essential:

    • Minimum 3 years of experience in advocacy or campaigning, with a focus on environmental or human rights issues.
    • Degree in Law, Economics, Public Policy, International Relations, or related fields.
    • Strong research, writing, and policy development skills.
    • Familiarity with international financial institutions and their policies.
    • Ability to work independently and within diverse remote teams.

    • Commitment to social and environmental justice, with sensitivity to gender and LGBT issues.
    • Experience supporting grassroots organizations and linking local issues to global policy.
    • Willingness to travel up to 4 weeks per year.
    • Fluent in English (written and spoken).
