    About the First Response Fund (FRF)

    The First Response Fund (FRF) is a pioneering global pooled fund in its pilot phase, designed to resource humanitarian responses led by feminist civil society organizations.

    It leverages the funding capacity and reach of women’s and feminist funds (W/FFs) and works closely with local women’s rights organizations (WROs/WLOs) across regions.

    Hosted by the Equality Fund in Canada, FRF aims to enhance localization by providing flexible, core resources directly to local organizations for life-saving humanitarian services.

    Since its launch in 2019, the Equality Fund has activated over $100 million, supporting more than 1,800 organizations across 100 countries.

    The Opportunity

    The Humanitarian Officer will provide critical program support within the FRF Secretariat, assisting with humanitarian grantmaking and operational tasks.

    Reporting to the FRF Director, this role involves administrative coordination, communication, and stakeholder engagement with women’s and feminist funds, donors, and partners.

    The position is based remotely in Canada and does not involve direct implementation of humanitarian activities.

    Scope & Responsibilities

    • Assist the Director in executing FRF’s humanitarian grantmaking strategies
    • Manage daily administrative tasks, including scheduling, meetings, and presentations
    • Support the preparation of Annual Work Plans, Budgets, and Grant Dockets

    • Liaise with Grant Officers for funding calls, workflows, and grants management in platforms like Asana and Salesforce
    • Conduct preliminary reviews of proposals and assist in due diligence processes
    • Coordinate contracting and post-award activities with support from the Global Programs Operations team

    • Maintain accurate records and manage program information on digital platforms
    • Compile humanitarian data from partner assessments and activities for internal and donor reporting
    • Support resource mobilization efforts through proposal development

    • Organize team travel, site visits, and retreat logistics, including budgeting
    • Facilitate financial administrative processes in collaboration with Finance colleagues
    • Uphold policies ensuring a safe, respectful, and harassment-free work environment

    Qualifications & Competencies

    Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in public administration, development studies, social sciences, or related fields
    • Minimum three years of experience in program coordination, project management, or similar roles in humanitarian or development sectors

    • Proficiency in English; French language skills are an asset
    • Understanding of feminist issues, advocacy, and women’s rights organizations is advantageous
    • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana) and CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) is highly valued

    Requirements

    • Legally eligible to work in Canada
    • Willingness to travel 1-2 times per year for up to 4 weeks in total
    • Availability for occasional evening or weekend work due to time zone differences
    • Ability to work remotely and independently on a computer-based environment
