The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has announced applications for the position of Information Management (IM) Specialist based in Abuja, Nigeria. The one-year renewable national contract offers an opportunity for experienced information management professionals to contribute to humanitarian programming in one of the world’s most complex displacement contexts.

The successful candidate will support DRC Nigeria’s programmes by designing, managing, and strengthening information management systems that enhance data collection, analysis, reporting, and evidence-based decision-making across humanitarian interventions.

Nigeria continues to face one of the world’s most severe humanitarian emergencies. According to DRC, prolonged conflict in the northeastern states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe has displaced more than 2.3 million people, while insecurity in the northwest has forced an additional 1.3 million people from their homes.

Climate-related shocks, including prolonged droughts and erratic rainfall, continue to worsen food insecurity and displacement, with approximately 1.8 million children suffering from severe acute malnutrition.

Key Responsibilities

The Information Management Specialist will play a central role in ensuring that programme data is accurate, accessible, secure, and effectively used to improve humanitarian programming.

Primary responsibilities include:

Designing and managing information management systems across DRC Nigeria programmes.
Developing databases, dashboards, templates, and reporting tools.
Supporting data collection for assessments, surveys, monitoring, and evaluations.
Producing data visualisations to support programme planning and decision-making.
Ensuring data quality, confidentiality, and compliance with DRC data protection and GDPR standards.
Supporting geographic information system (GIS) integration where appropriate.
Building staff and partner capacity through technical training on information management tools.
Coordinating with programme teams, MEAL specialists, IT teams, UN agencies, NGOs, and government stakeholders.
Supporting learning initiatives by documenting lessons learned and best practices.
Assessing and strengthening civil society partners’ information management capacities.

The specialist will also provide technical leadership to improve organisational learning and accountability across DRC’s humanitarian operations.

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants should possess significant experience in information management within humanitarian or development settings.

Minimum requirements include:

At least five years of experience in information management, database administration, or related fields.
University degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Information Technology, Programming, or another relevant discipline.
A Master’s degree is considered an advantage.
Certification in programming languages is desirable.
Fluency in written and spoken English.
Knowledge of local Nigerian languages such as Hausa or Kanuri is considered an asset.
