Overview
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is seeking a Programme Associate (WASH) to support water, sanitation, and hygiene programming within its Regional Office in Nairobi, Kenya. This position plays an important role in strengthening disaster risk reduction and climate resilience across cross-border communities in the Horn of Africa.
The role provides administrative and programmatic support for the implementation and monitoring of WASH-related initiatives focused on migrants, refugees, and vulnerable populations.
Key Responsibilities
The Programme Associate will provide operational support to ensure effective program delivery. Core responsibilities include:
- Assist in implementing and monitoring WASH project activities.
- Track progress and achievements of ongoing program activities.
- Participate in field monitoring and evaluation exercises.
- Retrieve, compile, and analyze project-related information and data.
- Prepare reports, statistical tables, presentations, and briefing notes.
- Support drafting project status reports and identify implementation challenges.
- Monitor project budgets and verify availability of funds.
- Support approval processes for project expenditures.
- Maintain accurate financial and administrative documentation.
- Serve as a focal point for administrative coordination of project activities.
- Liaise with government authorities, implementing partners, and donors.
- Support coordination with United Nations agencies and humanitarian partners.
- Organize meetings, workshops, and training sessions.
- Prepare documentation and logistical arrangements for stakeholder engagements.
- Participate in conferences and coordination meetings.
- Assist in monitoring implementing partners’ activities.
- Report any non-compliance issues to the supervisor.
- Provide guidance and training to junior or newly recruited staff members when required.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields.
Alternatively:
- A secondary school diploma with at least five years of relevant professional experience.
Professional Experience
- Experience collaborating with government institutions, UN agencies, and non-governmental organizations.
- Experience supporting programs related to migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, or trafficking survivors.
- Prior work with international humanitarian organizations or development agencies in multicultural environments.
Experience in migration-related programming or humanitarian assistance is highly desirable.
Key Skills
- Knowledge of migration-related program areas.
- Familiarity with UN or donor-funded project management systems.
- Understanding of financial rules and administrative procedures for international programs.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills.
Language Requirements
- Fluency in English is required.
- Fluency in Kiswahili is also required.
