🧭 Role Overview
The Health Specialist (Social & Behavioral Change – Polio) will lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of social and behavioral change (SBC) strategies that support Nigeria’s polio eradication efforts.
The role focuses on driving evidence-based interventions to interrupt poliovirus transmission, increase demand for vaccination, and address behavioral barriers such as vaccine hesitancy and missed children.
📌 Key Responsibilities
🔹 Design and develop SBC strategies aligned with polio eradication goals
🔹 Implement social mobilization and community engagement interventions
🔹 Provide technical and operational support to field programmes
🔹 Support vaccination campaigns and outbreak response efforts
🔹 Advocate and build partnerships with stakeholders and communities
🔹 Monitor and evaluate communication and SBC interventions
🔹 Contribute to broader health programme initiatives when required
🎯 Core Focus Areas
✔ Interrupting poliovirus transmission through strategic communication
✔ Increasing demand for routine immunization and polio vaccination
✔ Addressing vaccine hesitancy and refusal
✔ Strengthening community engagement between immunization rounds
🎓 Requirements
✔ Advanced University Degree in Social & Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, Health Promotion, Sociology, Psychology, or related field
✔ Minimum of 8 years’ relevant professional experience
✔ Proven experience in designing and managing SBC or social communication programmes
✔ Experience in immunization and/or polio programmes is required
✔ Strong knowledge of communication theory, behavioural analysis, and community engagement
✔ Skills in monitoring & evaluation, research, and strategic communication planning
✔ Fluency in English (required)
➕ Desirable Qualifications
✔ Knowledge of another UN language (Arabic, French, Spanish, etc.) or local languages
✔ Strong background in public health and programme management
✔ Experience in humanitarian or fragile settings
