    The U.S. Embassy in Abuja is seeking applications for the position of Senior Immunization Specialist (Public Health Specialist) under Announcement Number Abuja-2026-005. This position is open to all interested candidates and is based in Abuja, Nigeria. The role is full-time, with a work schedule of 40 hours per week. Additionally, it offers a salary of USD 52,282 per year. Appointment is permanent, subject to successful completion of a probationary period.

    The Senior Immunization Specialist will work under the supervision of the CDC Abuja Director of the Global Immunization Division (GID) to provide technical support to the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and other partners. The incumbent will design, implement, and strengthen routine disease surveillance systems. In addition, they will support large-scale surveys to measure Vaccine Preventable Disease (VPD) prevalence. A key responsibility is to improve routine immunization coverage in Nigeria. This effort contributes directly to polio eradication efforts.

    Key duties include providing technical expertise in epidemiology and immunization programs, supporting the collection, analysis, and dissemination of immunization data, guiding operational research, and developing public health interventions. The specialist will coordinate with government staff, multi-disciplinary teams, and international partners to ensure effective implementation of surveillance and immunization programs. Moreover, the role also involves emergency vaccination planning and outbreak response to strengthen national public health capacity.

    Applicants must have a medical degree (MD/MBBS) and a NYSC Certificate or Exemption. A minimum of five years of mid to senior-level experience in public health programs, including immunization, epidemiological surveillance, and disease eradication initiatives, is required. At least one year must be at the managerial level. Fluency in English is essential. Candidates must have detailed knowledge of polio and VPD epidemiology, immunization strategies, surveillance systems, and public health program management. Additionally, they must have experience using epidemiological data analysis software such as R, STATA, SAS, SPSS, or Python.

    This position requires a Public Trust background investigation and the ability to begin work within six weeks of receiving clearance.
