Legal Counsel @Paymentology

Overview

Paymentology, a leader in card issuing for banks, fintechs, and digital brands, is seeking a Legal Counsel to join their Legal team. This role involves delivering practical legal solutions that balance risk with commercial needs, supporting the company's global growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop an understanding of Paymentology’s business and regulatory landscape to provide impactful legal support.
• Provide legal advice on contract enforceability, licensing, regulatory compliance, and cross-border legal risks.
• Draft, review, and negotiate various contracts and legal documents.
• Work with internal teams to ensure legal advice aligns with business objectives.
• Support various legal workstreams and collaborate with the Legal team to deliver timely advice.
• Identify legal and regulatory risks and design risk mitigation strategies.
• Assist in developing internal legal frameworks, templates, and best practices.
• Engage with external counsel and interpret legal advice for internal stakeholders.
• Conduct high-quality legal and regulatory research.
• Analyze and simplify complex laws into clear internal legal opinions.
• Assess and communicate the impact of legal developments on the business.
• Contribute to legal training across the Legal and Compliance function.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with 4–6 years of post-qualification experience in commercial law.
• Strong background in contract negotiation and advisory, ideally in financial services or fintech.
• Proficient in legal research and analysis, with experience in interpreting regulations.
• Excellent drafting skills for contracts and legal documents.
• Good understanding of commercial legal risk and pragmatic advice.
• Deep expertise in payments regulatory issues is advantageous but not required.
• Excellent communication skills in English.
• Able to manage pressure and priorities in a fast-paced remote environment.
• Proactive and organized, contributing to improvements in legal processes.
