    Grants and Major Donor Officer Job Opportunity at NSPCA

    The National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA) is inviting applications for the position of Grants and Major Donor Officer.

    This full-time, office-based role is based in Alberton, Johannesburg and forms part of the organisation’s Communications Unit.

    This opportunity is suited to a research-driven, detail-oriented professional with excellent writing skills who is passionate about securing funding to support animal welfare initiatives.

    The successful candidate will focus on grant research, proposal writing, donor reporting, and maintaining long-term relationships with institutional donors and major funding partners.

    Unlike traditional fundraising positions, this is primarily a desk-based role centred on research, writing, strategy, and donor stewardship rather than events or public-facing fundraising activities.

    Key Responsibilities

    Donor Scouting and Research

    The successful candidate will:

    • Identify grant, CSI, trust, and foundation funding opportunities
    • Research and evaluate donor suitability
    • Maintain an up-to-date funding opportunities database
    • Track grant deadlines and eligibility requirements
    • Record donor relationship histories

    Proposal and Report Writing

    Responsibilities include:

    • Preparing high-quality grant proposals
    • Drafting donor funding applications and appeals
    • Assisting with proposal budgets in collaboration with internal teams
    • Producing accurate donor reports within required deadlines
    • Monitoring proposal outcomes and improving future submissions

    Donor Relationship Management

    The role also includes:

    • Building and maintaining professional relationships with institutional donors
    • Responding to donor enquiries
    • Coordinating donor feedback processes
    • Developing strategies to strengthen long-term donor engagement

    Strategic Support

    The Grants and Major Donor Officer will:

    • Support the Institutional Giving Strategy
    • Help align fundraising priorities with the organisation’s Brand Strategy
    • Work closely with internal departments on funding priorities and campaigns

    Business Appeals and In-Kind Giving

    Additional responsibilities include:

    • Drafting business appeals for ad hoc donations
    • Coordinating in-kind donations and services
    • Liaising with relevant internal units regarding donated goods and services

    Minimum Requirements

    Suitable applicants should possess:

    • Excellent writing and communication skills
    • Strong research and analytical abilities
    • Exceptional attention to detail
    • Strong organisational and time management skills

    • Professional relationship-building skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
    • Strategic thinking abilities
    • Passion for social impact and nonprofit work
    • Experience or interest in animal welfare will be advantageous
