Pharmacy Officer

Job Purpose
The Pharmacy Officer will support the Country Pharmacist (or Deputy Medical Coordinator) in ensuring the effective functioning of INTERSOS pharmacy operations.
This includes:
- Efficient pharmacy management
- Proper medical stock control
- Safe and rational use of medicines
- Compliance with INTERSOS guidelines and national/international regulations
Key Responsibilities
Pharmacy Operations & Management
- Support overall pharmacy operations across projects
- Ensure adherence to SOPs, hygiene, and safety standards
- Implement waste management protocols
- Support emergency preparedness and medical kit management
Stock Management & Supply Chain
- Ensure proper storage conditions (temperature, humidity, security, etc.)
- Maintain stock levels above minimum thresholds
- Prevent stock-outs, expiries, and overstocking
- Manage inventory, donations, and expired drugs
Procurement & Coordination
- Support procurement processes from needs assessment to delivery
- Collaborate with:
- Medical
- Logistics
- HR
- Finance teams
- Ensure procurement from approved suppliers
Monitoring & Data Management
- Collect and analyze stock and consumption data
- Maintain accurate records (hardcopy and electronic systems like IMS/Excel)
- Monitor drug usage patterns and support epidemiological tracking
Quality Assurance & Rational Drug Use
- Promote:
- Rational prescribing
- Safe dispensing practices
- Patient counseling
- Support antibiotic stewardship and pharmacovigilance
- Report any drug quality issues immediately
Field Support & Supervision
- Conduct regular visits to project sites
- Provide technical support to field pharmacies
- Monitor implementation of pharmacy standards
Compliance & Reporting
- Ensure adherence to national pharmaceutical regulations
- Manage controlled drugs (narcotics & psychotropics) properly
- Participate in stock checks and audits
- Report:
- Drug consumption trends
- Losses or discrepancies
- Unusual patterns
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm or PharmD)
- Registered with the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) with a valid license
Professional Experience
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in hospital pharmacy management
- NGO experience (especially in developing countries) is an advantage
Technical Skills
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Internet)
- Inventory and data management skills
- Understanding of pharmaceutical supply chain systems

Languages
