Overview

The British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowships are prestigious three-year awards designed to support outstanding early-career researchers in the humanities and social sciences, providing an opportunity for scholars to pursue independent research while strengthening their academic profiles.

Eligibility

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Hold a doctorate in humanities or social sciences.
• Have completed their viva between 1 April 2024 and 1 April 2027.
• Be at postdoctoral status at the time of application review.
• Must be based at a UK university or recognised research organisation for the duration of the fellowship.
• Are UK or EEA nationals (regardless of where the PhD was obtained) or hold a PhD from a UK university.
• Can demonstrate a strong prior association with the UK academic community.

Benefits

The fellowship operates under the Full Economic Costing (FEC) model and provides:

• 80% of salary costs.
• Coverage of directly allocated research costs.
• Contribution to indirect institutional costs.
