Overview

The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project (ACLED) is offering a remote consultancy opportunity for a West Africa Researcher to support the collection and analysis of data on political violence and protest activity across West Africa.

Key Responsibilities

Review and analyse various sources including news reports, NGO publications, international organization reports, and security briefings.
Identify incidents of political violence and protest activity.
Code events into structured datasets using Excel templates.
Verify accuracy and reliability of coded data and ensure adherence to ACLED’s methodological standards.
Conduct desk-based research on conflict events and maintain high attention to detail in data entry.

Requirements

University degree in International Relations, Political Science, Conflict Studies, Peacebuilding, or International Development.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.
Fluency in English and French.
Experience in desk-based research and familiarity with West African conflict dynamics is preferred.
Access to a reliable computer and stable internet connection.

Benefits

Compensation at USD 20 per hour, based on hours worked and verified task completion.
Initial consultancy period from May 15, 2026, to June 30, 2027, with possible continuation based on performance and funding availability.
