Overview

The role involves collaborating with engineering teams across the product group to guide and elevate technical excellence at Xero. The principal engineer will shape the technical strategy and partner with senior leaders to develop scalable, resilient software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Focus on modern cloud platforms, automated CI/CD pipelines, and microservice architectures.
• Refactor legacy services to enhance system scalability, performance, and security standards.
• Define portfolio-wide technical frameworks, SLOs, and strategies to manage technical debt.
• Mentor lead engineers and drive cross-team quality practices.

Requirements

• Demonstrated leadership in managing large-scale cloud-native software projects.
• Proven success in mentoring engineers and fostering inclusive team environments.
• Strong capability to shape long-term architectural vision while balancing technical debt with product delivery.
• Expertise in automating delivery tooling and establishing quality standards.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical teams and executives.
