Overview

Pinterest is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the technical strategy and execution for Indexing & Retrieval Infrastructure across Core, Ads, and Shopping. This role focuses on enhancing the freshness and relevance of content on the platform, playing a critical role within the delivery infrastructure organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and drive the long-term technical vision for indexing and retrieval infrastructure.
• Lead initiatives to modernize indexing architecture and improve candidate generation systems.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, ML, and infrastructure leaders to align project priorities.
• Guide system design and architecture reviews, ensuring high standards in backend operations.
• Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders, promoting strong engineering judgment.
• Utilize AI to enhance system design analysis and streamline workflow processes.

Requirements

• Expertise in building large-scale indexing, search, recommendation, or ads retrieval systems.
• Experience leading cross-team initiatives and influencing technical direction.
• Ability to navigate architectural modernization and complex system rollouts.
• Strong systems thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated use of AI to enhance engineering workflows.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

Location

This is a remote role, with required in-office collaboration 1-2 times per quarter at one of the following locations: San Francisco, CA; Palo Alto, CA; or Seattle, WA.
