The role involves joining the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team as a Principal Software Engineer, focusing on creating scalable, high-performance solutions particularly for the Serverless offering. The position aims to tackle complex distributed systems challenges surrounding Elasticsearch.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate core components of the next-generation Serverless Elasticsearch offering.
• Improve performance and consistency of Elasticsearch's components for concurrent indexing across multiple machines.
• Maintain the cluster coordination system to ensure high performance and safety as nodes are added or removed.
• Push the limits on the number of shards, nodes, and data that Elasticsearch can handle.
• Investigate performance and concurrency issues, proposing effective solutions.
• Support engineers in resolving complex issues.
• Own operational investigations from start to finish, ensuring successful resolution of performance or stability issues.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in distributed systems and consensus algorithms.
• Strong proficiency in core Java and knowledge of standard libraries for data structures and concurrency constructs.
• Technical proficiency in algorithms and experience in building large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience in developing and debugging complex features across multiple machines.
• Ability to manage projects involving multiple engineers and own projects from beginning to end.
• Proven track record of utilizing AI in development and debugging.
• Strong collaboration skills across functions and teams.
• Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions in a distributed environment.
