Senior Projects Coordinator at International Rescue Committee (IRC) – Maiduguri, Nigeria
The International Rescue Committee (IRC), one of the world’s leading humanitarian organizations, is currently seeking a qualified and experienced professional to fill the position of Senior Projects Coordinator in Maiduguri, Borno State. This full-time, in-person role offers an opportunity to contribute to life-changing humanitarian interventions across Northeast Nigeria.
Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC operates in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities, delivering critical support to people affected by conflict, disaster, and displacement. The organization is globally recognized for restoring safety, dignity, and hope to millions of vulnerable individuals and communities.
The Senior Projects Coordinator will lead the Project Management Unit (PMU) within the IRC Nigeria Country Program, providing high-level strategic oversight of project implementation across a diverse, multi-sector portfolio. The role is central to ensuring that all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with IRC standards and donor requirements.
Working closely with the Deputy Director for Operations, the successful candidate will oversee project performance monitoring, coordinate Budget vs Actuals (BvA) analysis, and facilitate effective project cycle management processes. The role also involves strengthening project management systems, improving data-driven decision-making, and ensuring seamless coordination between program, finance, and operations teams.
Key responsibilities include supervising PMU staff, analyzing portfolio performance, identifying risks and implementation gaps, and providing actionable recommendations to senior leadership. The coordinator will also support field teams with planning tools such as workplans, procurement plans, and spending trackers, while promoting the use of digital reporting systems like Power BI dashboards.
Additionally, the role requires leading internal coordination mechanisms, facilitating project meetings, supporting workforce planning decisions, and contributing to program development initiatives. Capacity building is a core component, with the coordinator expected to mentor field teams and enhance project management capabilities across the country program.
To be eligible, applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration, development studies, political science, or a related field, with at least five years of experience in project management or grants coordination. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to work in a dynamic, high-pressure environment.
The position is based in Maiduguri, with occasional travel to field locations. Due to the security context in Northeast Nigeria, candidates must be adaptable and capable of working in volatile environments while maintaining professionalism and adherence to IRC’s core values of integrity, equality, service, and accountability.
