Overview
Pinterest is seeking an experienced Security Software Engineer II for Detection and Response to build and implement security measures to protect employees and infrastructure. This role involves addressing emerging threats and making a significant impact on the company's security posture.
Key Responsibilities
- Build alerts and automation workflows to enhance detection and response to security threats.
- Manage logging pipelines and infrastructure, onboarding new logging sources to improve detection coverage.
- Develop and maintain internal tools to automate and expand detection and response capabilities.
- Respond to alerts generated from tooling and manage incidents as part of an on-call rotation.
- Collaborate with cross-team partners.
- Hunt for previously undetected threats.
- Utilize AI to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of security engineering.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong knowledge of intrusion detection and incident response in a cloud-first environment.
- Understanding of the attacker lifecycle and common detection techniques.
- Experience writing SIEM queries for alerting, response, and threat hunting.
- Familiarity with multiple telemetry sources for investigations.
- Understanding of networking technologies and basic TCP/IP fundamentals.
- Depth in MacOS, Linux/UNIX, or Windows internals, including persistence mechanisms and privilege escalation techniques.
- Scripting or automation experience (e.g., Python, Go, Ruby).
- Strong critical evaluation of AI-assisted work.
- High integrity and ownership in protecting sensitive data and using AI responsibly.
Benefits
The position is eligible for equity, with a salary range of $123,696 — $254,667 USD, depending on location, travel, and experience.

Remote within the United States, with occasional in-office collaboration required.
