Overview

The Senior Managing Medical Director provides clinical and operational leadership for utilization management programs while overseeing the performance, development, and management of the Medical Director team. This role serves as an advanced physician leader responsible for complex clinical matters, enterprise-level clinical influence, physician guidance, and quality leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and guidance to the Medical Director team, including recruitment and onboarding.
• Manage Medical Director schedules and ensure operational continuity.
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching to Medical Directors.
• Conduct high-cost claimant and complex case reviews to ensure appropriate utilization.
• Render utilization review determinations for various medical necessity reviews.
• Support client retention and growth in clinical resource meetings and audits.
• Lead internal and external clinical audit activities to ensure compliance.

Requirements

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) with board certification in primary specialty.
• Hold a valid, unrestricted medical license; ability to obtain multistate licensure.
• Minimum of eight years of clinical practice experience, including three years of formal leadership experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of utilization management principles and the U.S. healthcare delivery system.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
