Senior Security Engineer - Defence @Xero

Overview

The role involves designing, building, and operating security capabilities to detect and respond to threats at Xero. The Senior Security Engineer will collaborate across teams to implement reliable security measures, fostering a culture of shared ownership and continuous learning.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detection, monitoring, and response workflows utilizing SIEM, SOAR, EDR, and cloud security platforms.
• Implement automation to reduce manual effort and expedite Security Operations responses.
• Measure detection coverage, control effectiveness, and operational reliability.
• Integrate safe and valuable automation and AI within security engineering.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience in designing, building, and operating production security capabilities or services.
• Proficiency in programming or scripting, preferably in Python, with sound software engineering practices.
• Strong knowledge of security monitoring, detection, threat intelligence, incident response, and automation.
• Experience with cloud environments, particularly AWS, and understanding of cloud logging, identity, networking, and security services.
• Familiarity with adversary behaviors and frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK.
• Ability to lead technical initiatives and communicate technical risks and trade-offs effectively.
