Senior Software Engineer, AI Systems @Zello

Overview

Zello is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for AI Systems to join their AI & Data team. This role involves building and operating AI-driven systems that support frontline workers using Zello's communication platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Build LLM-backed systems end to end for users who are not engineers.
• Design eval suites and monitoring before shipping.
• Review agent pull requests and provide actionable feedback.
• Triage drift, address silent failures, and fix root causes of issues.
• Set engineering conventions that are adopted by the team.
• Coach teammates who are strong analysts and new to software craft.
• Advise when AI is not suitable for a problem before implementation.

Requirements

• Proficient in programming and able to reason about unfamiliar code.
• Proactively build solutions even when not explicitly requested.
• Integrate tests and evaluations as part of the shipping process.
• Provide impactful code review feedback and coach team members.
• Connect engineering standards to outcomes instead of personal preferences.
• Maintain high standards without diminishing team morale.
• Experience operating production systems used by others.
