Senior Software Engineer II, Developer Experience @Instacart

Overview

Instacart is the North American leader in online grocery. The Developer Experience team focuses on empowering engineers across Instacart to improve their productivity and overall experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain internal developer tooling, platforms, and infrastructure that enhance the productivity and reliability of engineering teams.
• Own complex technical initiatives end-to-end, from scoping and architecture through to implementation and rollout.
• Identify friction points in developer experience and drive solutions to improve velocity and reduce toil.
• Contribute to the technical direction of the team by participating in design and code reviews.
• Adapt quickly to changing priorities in a fast-moving environment and make informed technical decisions under uncertainty.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a strong track record of delivering complex systems in production.
• Proficiency in backend languages such as Go, Ruby, Python, Java, or similar.
• Experience in building or contributing to developer tooling and infrastructure.
• Ability to lead technical projects independently with cross-functional impacts.
• Strong communication skills for effective collaboration across engineering teams.
