Key Responsibilities

• Define and drive the technical vision and architecture for the backend systems supporting Pinterest Assistant.
• Lead the design and implementation of the core Assistant platform.
• Drive technical strategy and identify foundational platform investments.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver a personalized, multimodal conversational experience.
• Establish engineering best practices for production LLM and agent systems.
• Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the organization.
• Make pragmatic architectural decisions balancing rapid iteration with long-term maintainability.
• Stay updated with advances in LLMs and backend platform design.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of backend software engineering experience.
• 3+ years as a technical lead, driving architecting large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong backend engineering experience in Python, TypeScript, Node, or similar languages.
• Experience building platforms that enable product teams to move faster.
• Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with AI concepts like retrieval, ranking, and context management.
• Track record of mentoring and improving engineering quality.
