Overview

Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer focused on Databases for their Tempo project. This remote position aims to enhance observability through innovative solutions within a distributed system context.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead multi-quarter technical initiatives from problem framing through rollout, including API design and query engine improvements.
• Own the architecture of core Tempo components, focusing on performance and scalability.
• Design user-friendly APIs and enhance Tempo's interfaces for user and agent reliability.
• Drive operational excellence against defined SLOs and aim for automated processes.
• Collaborate with Product teams and mentor engineers within the organization.
• Participate in on-call duties and contribute to open-source community engagement.

Requirements

• Proven technical leadership in managing complex initiatives.
• Extensive experience with distributed data systems and production services.
• Strong software craftsmanship with proficiency in Go or related systems languages.
