Staff Software Engineer - Databases, Tempo | Ireland | Remote @Grafana Labs

Overview

Grafana Labs is a fully remote company that develops Grafana Cloud, a managed observability platform trusted by over 10,000 organizations. The Staff Software Engineer will work on Tempo, the open-source distributed tracing backend that enhances Grafana's observability products.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction and multi-quarter initiatives for Tempo.
• Own the architecture of core Tempo components, ensuring performance and reliability.
• Design APIs and interfaces for both humans and agents.
• Drive operational excellence, focusing on SLO outcomes and reduction of toil.
• Collaborate with Product and other teams to align on goals and deliver solutions.
• Mentor other engineers through code reviews and collaboration.
• Participate in on-call duties and contribute to open-source efforts.

Requirements

• Proven technical leadership in complex technical projects.
• Experience in building and operating distributed data systems.
• Strong software craftsmanship and proficiency in Go or a similar systems language.
• An operational mindset with a focus on reducing technical debt and optimizing performance.
• Excellent communication skills in a remote working environment.
