    Grafana Labs is seeking a Staff Software Engineer for the Identity and Access team, responsible for designing and implementing authentication systems. The company is fully remote and emphasizes a collaborative, globally distributed culture.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Set the technical direction for authentication systems and lead complex initiatives from conception to delivery.
    • Dedicate approximately 55% of time to backend development (Golang), 25% to technical leadership, and 20% to operations and reliability.
    • Define and own the technical architecture for authentication systems, including edge authentication redesign.
    • Mentor and develop senior engineers, providing technical guidance and support for their professional growth.
    • Drive cross-team technical alignment on authentication standards across Grafana’s engineering organization.
    • Represent Grafana Labs at meetups and conferences, contributing to the identity and authentication community.

    Requirements

    • Deep expertise in distributed systems engineering with Go and delivering large-scale production systems.
    • Proven ability to define technical direction and drive architectural decisions independently.
    • Experience building and operating low-latency, high-throughput services in distributed environments.
    • Strong understanding of SLOs, SLIs, error budgets, and designing reliable systems.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Expert-level understanding of modern identity standards and threat models (OAuth 2.x/2.1, OIDC, SAML).
