Applications are open for the 12th Students and Young Professionals African Liberty Academy (SYPALA) 2026, a premier policy seminar hosted by the IMANI Center for Policy & Education for young African leaders.

About SYPALA

SYPALA is a four-day residential academic seminar designed to cultivate policy and business leaders in Africa by engaging participants in discussions around public policy, free markets, institutional reform, and governance innovation.

Essay Competition Overview

Applicants must submit an original essay (max 1,200 words) in English, identifying a policy or business innovation to enhance economic resilience and inclusive governance in an African country. The essay should analyze the challenge, explain the solution, and outline potential implementation obstacles.

Maximum length: 1,200 words
Language: English only
Submission format: DOCX or PDF
Include a summary of no more than 200 words
Proper citations and references are required
Submissions must be original; plagiarism leads to disqualification
Each applicant may submit only one entry

Applicants must also provide their institution, current academic level, course of study, and age.
