Job Summary

The Nature Conservancy is seeking an experienced Agriculture Carbon Specialist to support global field programs in designing and implementing high-integrity carbon projects.

This role involves technical expertise in natural climate solutions, project management, and collaboration with diverse teams and partners to address climate change, biodiversity loss, and equitable development through innovative carbon strategies.

About the Role

The Agriculture Carbon Specialist will:

• Provide technical guidance on soil carbon accounting, project feasibility, and high-quality carbon standards.
• Lead assessment, design, and management of NCS agriculture carbon projects across various ecosystems.
• Support validation and verification processes alongside external bodies.

• Collaborate internally to ensure project adherence to high standards and contribute to strategic decision-making.
• Engage internationally, with travel up to 25% of the time, fostering partnerships and representing TNC at various forums.
• Manage project budgets, timelines, and teams to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Advisory & Carbon Accounting

• Offer expertise in soil carbon principles, including baseline estimation, additionality, leakage, and durability assessments.
• Apply biogeochemical modeling and soil analysis techniques to quantify GHG fluxes and carbon outcomes.

Project Evaluation & Development

• Review project ideas, conduct feasibility assessments, and contribute to project design documentation.
• Support external project due diligence, risk assessment, and impact evaluations.

Methodology & Standards Guidance

• Assist project teams in selecting appropriate high-quality carbon standards and methodologies to ensure project integrity.

Capacity Building & Tool Development

• Facilitate technical training and knowledge sharing internally and externally.
• Develop tools and templates to streamline project evaluation and design processes.

Validation, Verification & Project Oversight

• Support documentation preparation and engagement with VVBs for project validation and verification.
• Oversee project planning, budgeting, and risk mitigation strategies.

External Engagement & Representation

• Represent The Nature Conservancy in external events, fostering collaborations with partners, consultants, and stakeholders.

Risk Management & Strategic Support

• Identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring high-quality carbon credits aligned with organizational standards.
• Make strategic technical decisions based on comprehensive analysis and experience.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in natural science, forestry, geography, ecology, or related fields.
• Minimum of four years’ relevant experience in NCS agriculture carbon projects.
• Proven expertise in soil sampling, biogeochemical modeling, and carbon accounting methodologies.

• Experience working with voluntary carbon standards, VVBs, and project developers.
• Strong project management skills across all project phases.
• Excellent communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus.
