Overview
The Nature Conservancy is seeking a Climate Finance Specialist to provide advanced business, financial, and economic expertise to support conservation and climate initiatives through non-grant financial instruments financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop non-grant components of GCF projects, including debt and risk mitigation instruments.
- Draft Idea Notes, Concept Notes, project proposals, and funding applications.
- Support feasibility studies, financial analyses, and logical frameworks.
- Oversee and supervise consultants supporting project development.
- Draft financial models, term sheets, and lending agreements.
- Advise and build capacity within TNC country programs, governments, and partners.
- Lead or support training workshops, stakeholder consultations, and country visits.
- Support project management for NGI development workstreams.
- Provide technical review of proposals to ensure alignment with strategies and policies.
- Source co-financing and collaborate with impact investors and financial institutions.
- Maintain current knowledge of GCF policies and ensure compliance.
- Communicate complex financial concepts persuasively to diverse audiences.
- Lead oversight of loan components and develop tools for project development and implementation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years’ experience in private sector, conservation organization, government, or related fields.
- Proven experience designing, structuring, and managing large-scale debt products, preferably for GCF or similar funders.
- Deep understanding of financial institutions, loan origination, underwriting, and risk assessment.
- Experience negotiating complex agreements and working across organizational and external teams.
- Knowledge of environmental/social management systems within financial institutions.
- Familiarity with sustainable finance, ESG trends, and blended finance approaches.
- Demonstrated success managing multi-stakeholder projects and delivering financial products.
- Experience in GCF funding proposal development (preferred).
- Expertise in designing on-lending operations and financial inclusion (preferred).
- Practical experience with large conservation and climate change projects funded by donors (preferred).
- Strong strategic leadership and project development skills (preferred).
