Overview

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Papua New Guinea is seeking a Project Gender & Safeguards Specialist to provide strategic leadership and technical guidance on gender equality and environmental/social safeguards for its climate, biodiversity, and natural resource projects.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and implementation of Gender Action Plans (GAPs).
Provide technical guidance on UNDP and GEF gender policies.
Conduct gender analyses to inform project frameworks.
Oversee compliance with UNDP Social and Environmental Standards (SES), Environmental and Social Screening Procedures (ESSP), and GEF Minimum Standards.
Support the development and implementation of Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs).
Design and facilitate training programs on gender and safeguards.
Develop guidance tools and knowledge products.
Monitor gender and safeguards indicators and contribute to reporting and evaluations.
Support the integration of gender and safeguard considerations into national policies.

Requirements

Advanced university degree (Master’s) in Gender Studies, Environmental Policy, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or equivalent.
Minimum 5 years (Master’s) or 7 years (Bachelor’s) of experience in gender integration and/or safeguards in development or environmental projects.
Experience applying SES, ESMPs, and GAPs.
Advanced computer literacy (MS Office, databases).
Strong skills in stakeholder coordination, training, knowledge sharing, and facilitation.
Fluency in English and Tok Pisin.
