    United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is inviting applications for its Social Media and Multimedia Internship Roster 2026, offering a unique opportunity for aspiring communications and digital media professionals.

    This internship is home-based, with reporting lines to the UNDP office in New York, and falls under the Bureau for Policy and Programme Support.

    This six-month, full-time internship is ideal for candidates interested in communications, climate action, and digital storytelling within the global development sector.

    About the Internship Programme

    The internship is part of UNDP’s Decarbonization and Sustainable Energy team, which operates within the Healthy Planet Hub of the Global Policy Network. The team works at the intersection of energy policy, climate action, digital innovation, and sustainable development.

    Interns will support communications efforts aimed at promoting initiatives related to energy transition, climate solutions, and sustainable development goals (SDGs). The role focuses heavily on digital engagement, content creation, and multimedia storytelling.

    Importantly, this is a roster-based opportunity, meaning selected candidates will be placed in a pool and may be contacted for internship assignments throughout 2026 based on project needs.

    Key Responsibilities

    Selected interns will contribute across multiple areas, including:

    Social Media and Content Creation

    • Develop engaging content for platforms such as LinkedIn, X (Twitter), YouTube, and Instagram
    • Create graphics, infographics, animations, and short-form videos
    • Support campaign planning, scheduling, and performance tracking

    Communications Support

    • Draft social media posts, web content, and campaign messaging
    • Assist in producing communication materials such as fact sheets, toolkits, and outreach content
    • Support internal and external communications

    Multimedia and Video Production

    • Assist in producing and editing videos for campaigns, events, and storytelling
    • Create captions, subtitles, and visual edits
    • Develop storyboards for digital content

    Website and Digital Asset Management

    • Update website content, including news and publications
    • Organize and manage digital assets such as photos and videos
    • Ensure consistency with UNDP branding guidelines

    Eligibility Criteria

    Applicants must meet one of the following requirements at the time of application:

    • Be enrolled in a postgraduate programme (Master’s or higher)
    • Be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree
    • Have graduated within the last year
    • Be enrolled in a postgraduate traineeship programme

    Relevant fields include:

    • Communications
    • Marketing
    • Graphic Design
    • Public Relations
    • Journalism or related disciplines

    Required Skills and Experience

    Ideal candidates should demonstrate:

    • Experience creating multimedia and social media content
    • Skills in graphic design, branding, and visual storytelling
    • Familiarity with video editing and motion graphics
    • Experience with website management and digital platforms

    Technical skills include:

    • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, After Effects)
    • Knowledge of tools such as Canva, Figma, and InDesign
    • Familiarity with social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Buffer)
    • Experience with content management systems (WordPress, Drupal) is an advantage

    Understanding of climate change, energy, and sustainable development topics is considered a plus.

    Language Requirements

    • Excellent written and spoken English is required
    • Knowledge of additional UN languages such as French, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, or Chinese is an asset

    Internship Benefits

    UNDP provides a monthly stipend to interns who are not financially supported by another institution. For remote internships, the stipend helps cover costs such as internet and communication.
