Vice President, Data Science @Five9

Overview

The role of Vice President of Data Science at Five9 involves leading and growing the in-house data science team, which focuses on research, experimentation, data collection, curation, and analysis. Key Responsibilities

• Set technical direction for methodologies, practices, algorithms, and processes.
• Be hands-on and responsible for some technical work alongside managing the team.
• Grow the data science team to meet increased demands.
• Act as a spokesperson for data science internally and externally, collaborating with various stakeholders.
• Engage with customers to understand product impact and participate in industry activities.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in data science or AI applied research.
• Deep expertise in modern AI/ML, LLMs, agentic architectures, and model pipelines.
• Strong experience with commercial and open-source model ecosystems.
• Proven ability in model fine-tuning, training, and optimization for real-world use cases.
• Expertise in large-scale data engineering, curation, and statistical analysis.
• Experience in software development and production ML systems.
• Exceptional communication and storytelling skills.
• Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s) in a relevant quantitative or technical field.

Location

This role is fully remote for candidates outside a 30-mile radius of an office, and hybrid for those within this radius, requiring 3 days a week in-office.
