    Applications are invited for the position of WASH Officer at Danish Refugee Council. This is an international humanitarian organization dedicated to supporting refugees, internally displaced persons, and vulnerable communities around the world. It was founded in 1956 in Denmark. Since then, the organization has grown into a global humanitarian actor with thousands of staff and volunteers. These staff and volunteers work in more than forty countries. As a result, it now provides emergency assistance, protection, and sustainable solutions for displaced populations.

    The organization works across conflict affected regions, displacement routes, and host communities. In addition, it supports individuals and families in rebuilding their lives with dignity. Its work is guided by the core humanitarian values of humanity, respect, independence, neutrality, participation, honesty, and transparency.

    The WASH Officer will be responsible for coordinating and implementing Water Sanitation and Hygiene and civil infrastructure projects within operational communities. The role involves conducting field assessments, planning interventions, and designing infrastructure solutions. In addition, the officer will support the delivery of safe water and sanitation services for refugees, returnees, and internally displaced persons.

    The successful candidate will work closely with community members, local authorities, and partner organizations to design and manage WASH interventions that meet humanitarian standards. This ensures the safety and wellbeing of beneficiaries. Responsibilities include conducting needs assessments and supporting the design of infrastructure such as water systems and sanitation facilities. Furthermore, the officer will monitor construction progress and ensure compliance with sector standards. These standards include Sphere guidelines.

    The officer will also play an important role in community mobilization and capacity building by supporting the establishment and training of water management committees. The officer will encourage community ownership of infrastructure and strengthen sustainable maintenance systems. In addition, the role requires collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders. This collaboration ensures coordinated implementation of WASH activities across programme locations.

    Applicants should have at least three years of experience in the implementation and monitoring of WASH or civil infrastructure projects, preferably within humanitarian or emergency response contexts. Strong technical knowledge of WASH programming, infrastructure design, and sector standards is required. Candidates should also possess good computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office. Moreover, they should have basic knowledge of AutoCAD or similar design software.

    Fluency in English and Hausa is required. Additionally, familiarity with the humanitarian context in Northwestern Nigeria is considered an advantage.

    Education requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Water Engineering, Architecture, or a related engineering field from a recognized institution.
